The Livescribe Pulse pentop is an intriguing device. There is a simple way to harness the Pulse to record audio from a Soundboard mixer if there is a preview output accessible for a standard stereo 3.5mm plug (3 conductor):
  1. As noted in appends to the Livescribe Forum, the ear buds for the Pulse pen fit pretty comfortably under a full audio headset, or ones with large soft foam pads. Then the person who is indexing the audio can simply:
    • turn on the soundsystem and insure the headphones are faithfully reproducing the sound
    • start the Pulse pen session as soon as the event starts
    • take notes on different events, simple outline format would do
    • stop the Pulse pen and take off the headset and Pulse ear buds
    • editing of the session to only post sermon audio is done on the Livescribe desktop
  2. If an adapter is available to handle appropriate impedence match, then a 4 conductor 2.5mm adapter to 4 conductor 3.5mm adapter cable could be created. A diagram will be attached (sketched 2010-01-08)
    • Parts: Vetco Electronics has many of the 2.5mm connectors and cables required
    • PPCTech also had some cables and adapters with 2.5mm to 3.5mm, but all were 3 conductor

The Livescribe Pulse smartpen has numerous quirks in it's v2.0.1 desktop and v2.1 pentop software:
  • Far too often, this release of software updates text on pages in the notebook to the Livescribe Desktop, BUT associated audio is NOT transferred or page disappears.
    • workarounds from the Livescribe fora talk about making a markup while replay audio on a page. Worked to recover a page for me!
    • Another related problem here in Livescribe fora
    • The headset earbud microphones are very sensitive and do a decent job of picking up amplified lecturers, BUT they also pick up sounds from every move you make!
